Air/Water Channel in Flexible Medical Endoscopes
The Air/Water Channel is a critical functional lumen in flexible medical endoscopes. It is used to deliver air (or CO₂) and water to the distal end of the endoscope to support visualization and clinical operation.
Functions:
-
Air Insufflation
In gastrointestinal endoscopy, the water & air channel delivers air or CO₂ into the gastrointestinal tract to achieve controlled lumen distension and mucosal fold expansion, thereby improving visualization and procedural conditions. -
Water Irrigation
Water is delivered to the distal nozzle to rinse mucus, blood, or tissue debris from the objective lens, ensuring clear and stable imaging. -
Air/Water Control
The delivery of air and water is controlled via the air/water valve on the control body, allowing switching between air and water functions.
Materials:
The air & water channel requires excellent flexibility, biocompatibility, and resistance to chemical disinfectants. Commonly used materials include:
-
PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene)
Provides an extremely smooth inner surface and outstanding chemical resistance, suitable for applications requiring high durability against disinfectants.
Applications:
Compatible with: Olympus®,Pentax®,Fujinon®
