WORKING PRINCIPLES OF BENDING SECTION
The bending section is constituted by a sequence of irregularly shaped metal rings, each one linked to the neighboring rings via freely moving joints. These joints are intricately designed using a set of pivot pins, with each pin offset from its neighbors by 90 degrees.One set of pivot pins permits the bending section to curl in the up-down direction, while another set enables it to curl in the left-right direction. Collectively, these enable the bending section to curl in any direction. The direction of the curl is controlled by four angulation wires that extend along the length of the insertion tube. These four wires are securely fastened to the tip of the bending section at the 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock, 9 o’clock, and 12 o’clock positions. Pulling on the wire fixed at the 12 o’clock position propels the bending section to curl upwards, a maneuver endoscopists refer to as “up tip deflection.” Pulling on the wire fixed at the 3 o’clock position stimulates right tip deflection. Pulling the other two wires triggers downward and leftward deflections. The endoscopist can successively pull on each of these wires by rotating either the up-down or right-left angulation knobs. Rotating both the up-down and right-left knobs simultaneously generates a combined tip movement (e.g., upward and to the right) and empowers the endoscopist to sweep the tip of the endoscope in any direction.
